IATA-approved cage

What is an IATA-approved cage?

Cages considered as approved by IATA (the International Air Transport Association) are the only ones permitted for animal travel.

To ensure the cage is IATA-approved, it needs to be:

  • closed at the front (grill) with a centralised lock
  • sturdy (the upper and lower part locked with screws and not with clips, with a steel door and a hard plastic shell)
  • secure (good air flow, secure door locking, wheels are not recommended)

If you would like to obtain a travel cage, it would be best to get some advice. In fact, although many pet shops and websites offer IATA-approved travel cages, they are often not suitable for air freight travel.
