Canicross, a sport of its own
MAN AND HOUND UNITED THROUGH SPORT!
Canicross is a canine sport activity of Scandinavian origin whose aim is to unite dog with master for physical exercise along a route.
This sport has its roots in the training of mushers and team races for sled dogs.
This recognised sport evolves from year to year.
A good alternative to practising sport, in the company of ones four-legged companion.
This sport is open to all, to dogs of all breeds and all sizes.
There are simple equipment requirements:
- A dog harness
- An extendable leash (2m maximum)
- A waistband or harness
The only rule to respect is not to move in front of your dog, they must always be in the lead!
It provides a great way to get some physical exercise in the company of your dog, while enjoying being out in nature and the outdoors.
You can register with the IFSS (International Federation of Sled Dog Sports) and follow the various routes on the canicross website.
The most well-known route in France is the Trophée des Montagnes, which is held every August in the Alps.
The most well-known French racers are, for the men, Alain Liotard, Damien Vernimont and Jean-Philippe Deshayes, and for the women Anne Vanhove and Manue Grisius.
Rest assured that if you don’t like running, other disciplines exist such as caniwalking and bikejoring, which will be presented in the next article!!
Canicross is even being showcased on France 3!!
